Australian Privacy Principles (APP) come into force on the 12th March 2014

The APP's come into force on the 12th March 2014 and replace the National Privacy Principles (NPP's) which applied to the private sector and Information Privacy Principles (IPP's) which applied to Australian Government Agencies.

The APP's cover the collection, use, disclosure and storage of personal information. The APP's apply to Australian Government Agencies and also to the private sector with a turnover of $3 million or more. The App's will also apply to the private sector including health service providers with a turnover of less than $3 million (i.e. all ANTA practicing members).

The Privacy Act now includes 13 APP's and the privacy fact sheet with details of the 13 APP's can be downloaded below.

ANTA recommends all members familiarise themselves with the 13 APP's. If you have any questions please contact ANTA on 1800 817 577 or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner www.oaic.gov.au .
