Update - National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for Chinese Medicine

Work is progressing in preparation for the integration of Chinese Medicine into the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) on the 1st July 2012.

Public consultation with practitioners on the NRAS ended in April 2011. Questions and issues raised during the consultation phase are available at www.nras2012.ahpra.gov.au  on the presentations and FAQ pages.

In regard to the establishment of the National Board for Chinese Medicine, over 200 expressions of interest, 25 accreditation submissions and over 45 submissions on the size of the board were received.

Once the National Board for Chinese Medicine has been appointed, the board will develop registration standards, codes and guidelines for national registration.

The National Board will consult with ANTA on their draft proposals to ensure a smooth transition for practitioners into the NRAS.

The National Board will also be working with AHPRA to put in place processes to assess applications from practitioners and to establish registration fees.

ANTA recommends members who are accredited in acupuncture and chinese medicine should ensure they have necessary documentation such as qualifications, academic transcripts, evidence of continuing professional education and evidence of time in practice ready for when applications for registration open.
