A long Road: an acupuncture travelogue
A long road volume 2
A Long Road: An Acupuncture Travelogue Vol 1 & 2

Edward Obaidey

The best way to learn the art of Oriental Medicine is by direct transmission in the clinic - seeing, feeling, sensing, and being part of the treatment process - through a relationship with someone familiar with the road you are on.

A Long Road: An Acupuncture Travelogue provides snapshots of steps along the road by the author in his development over many years as a busy practitioner. The real sense of living, dynamic treatment is conveyed through the author’s obvious dedication and delight in pursuing and transmitting understanding of this art.

The more so by the inclusion of conversation transcripts between the author and his students through which the reader is offered the chance to benefit from a sense of the sensei/ deshi (student/ teacher) relationship. In-depth articles cover specific conditions, treatment concepts, diagnostic nuance, case histories and discussion on point meaning and use. The classical texts are explored with translation & commentary and brought to vibrant clinical relevance to the extent that the text could almost be viewed as a clinical work-book. To be consulted, for inspiration and guidance – and to be sweated over in study – but mostly (and importantly) in clinical practice.

This text is recommended for practitioners of all ‘styles’ or ‘methods’as a path away from the unfortunate tendency to intellectualize oriental medicine and thus trap it in the classroom or lecture theatre. The reader is offered a bridge between classical theory/ training, and the vibrant reality of the clinical practice of acupuncture, moxabustion and traditional massage.

Acupuncture: from symbol to clinical practice
Acupuncture: From Symbol to Clinical Practice

Every practitioner of acupuncture is confronted with the same
problem: how do I choose points to treat a particular patient at a particular time? For the complex conditions most often seen in Western clinics, rote prescriptions are rarely effective.

Through his decades-long experience as a practitioner, Dr Jean-Marc Kespi has returned to the ancient roots of acupuncture and developed an approach to choosing the best points for a given situation. Dr Kespi s engagement with Chinese medicine led him to understand that traditional symbols, reflected in the names of points and descriptions of physiological processes, act as intermediaries between the formal rules of medicine and their manifestations in the human body. Thus his approach proceeds from symbol to a specific diagnosis and therapeutic action, and onto the insertion of a needle in a precise point on the body. In this manner he shows the practitioner how to see beyond the symptoms and address the whole person, thereby providing more effective treatments.

With keen insight into the meanings of individual points, Dr Kespi typically uses only one-three needles to treat the disequilibrium found at the root level.

In addition to laying out his ideas on the foundations of acupuncture, Dr Kespi shares his wide experience in this book through over one-hundred case histories, which give the reader the opportunity to see how this approach actually works in the clinic.

REVIEW
This is the work of a seasoned practitioner and teacher writing in his mature years, confident in his knowledge and the accuracy of his approach. … [Dr. Kespi] honors his fundamental principle throughout: to respond to the body s needs without preconception or anticipation, searching rationally and intuitively for the best points at the moment of each treatment session. --Joseph Helms, M.D

Characters of Wisdom
Characters of Wisdom

We are delighted to announce that the new revised edition of 'Characters of Wisdom' by Debra Kaatz, has arrived!

CHARACTERS OF WISDOM:
Over 4000 years ago the great Chinese Emperors knew that life was regulated by energy meridians running through the body. Along each of the energy channels were special points that could be stimulated to bring life into balance and harmony. Each of the points was given a very particular name that told a story about how the energy flowed and how it could be used to bring harmony to our lives. Acupuncturists stimulate these points in various ways to bring energy back into balance.

This book is about the Taoist tales of the Chinese characters for 361 of these acupuncture points. It is an introduction to the beauty of this ancient form of healing medicine and will delight practitioners, students and anyone interested in Chinese characters and the healing spirits of each of these special points.

The 2nd edition has two new chapters on five element acupuncture, has been completely re-edited and includes more information on all the points.

The Moon Over Matsushima: Insights into Moxa and Mugwort
The Moon Over Matsushima: Insights into Moxa and Mugwort

The "Moon Over Matsushima" sets out on a beautiful journey of exploration, one with unexpected twists and turns. This title adds up to much more than a standard, run-of-the-mill acu-moxa text, instead its unusual approach subtley stitches together motifs which take it outside the conventions of most books in this genre.

"This is a unique book. A breathtaking vista of information and perspectives."
Stephen Birch. The book itself shifts systematically through five parts, the title of each reflecting parts of the mugwort plant itself.

  • "The Roots" speculatively deliberates on the history of the treatment, at times a little playfully, but always with respect.
  • "The Stalk" explores the nature and biochemistry of mugwort.
  • "The Branch" reviews various traditional approaches as well as offering some slightly novel takes on them.
  • "The Stem" takes an often hard-nosed and analytical look at the therapy’s possible mechanisms particularly in the light on its well accepted effect on immune response.
  • "The Leaves" completes the main text by reviewing the therapy in light of how it might be adapted for best use today.

An invaluable appendix contains over thirty pages of treatment options for a wide range of disorders.

"What are the secrets of mugwort and moxibustion? This book will be your guide" - Lorraine Wilcox.

"If you are interested in moxa you will find the Moon over Matsushima a fascinating read and understand moxa in a new light" - Charles Chace

This is a wonderful reference for the Practitioner who regularly treats with moxa but so too is it an inspirational and inviting text to those less familiar with how best to incorporate moxibustion as a therapy in treatments.

RRP: $47.30 STUDENT/PRACTITIONER PRICE $40.20

Holistic Microneedling: A Natural Approach to Skin Needling
Holistic Microneedling: A Natural Approach to Skin Needling

November has seen the release of the new book ‘Holistic Microneedling: A Natural Approach to Skin Needling’ by Anthony Kingston. The book provides a detailed account of how to perform micro needling also called skin needling or derma rolling in a holistic and less invasive way. Micro needling has been a buzzword in the cosmetic industry for many years now. The treatment’s ability to induce large amounts of the body’s own collagen while dramatically increasing transdermal absorption has made it a mainstay in high end cosmetic clinics across the world.
In this ground breaking book Anthony Kingston explains how by applying a holistic approach to micro needling we can overcome several of the issues that can limit patient compliance and achieve better results.

Applying micro needling in a holistic way allows therapists to achieve painless micro needling treatments, reduce side-effects and create bespoke treatments.
This book focuses on the techniques that can be applied to micro needling and how best to perform them. It provides a detailed account of how to perform the techniques for a variety of conditions and analyses different products that can be applied in different situations. In addition, a thorough study of the history and science behind micro needling is provided and demonstrated through 37 colour photos and diagrams.

The demand for quality holistic beauty treatments is growing rapidly as more and more people demand way to slow the visible signs of aging in a natural healthy way. Micro needling is uniquely placed to meet this demand as it works with the body’s own resources rather than relying on introduced substances or electrical appliances.

Anthony is an ideal candidate to write this book. He began studying skin needling in the form of acupuncture in Australia before continuing to study a wide variety of cosmetic skin needling techniques throughout Asia and the west. Together with his wife he founded the first specialist cosmetic skin needling clinic in the southern hemisphere. He has demonstrated some of these innovative techniques on national television across Australia and now lives and teaches in the UK.

This book is perfect for those who wish to add a scientifically proven holistic treatment to their clinic or for those who already practice micro needling, but want to better understand how the process works and how they can better apply what they have learnt.

The book is available through White Lotus Anti Aging  as either a soft cover book or an ebook.

Lectures on Tung's Acupuncture
Lectures on Tung's Acupuncture
  1. Lectures on Tung's Acupuncture: Points Study
  2. Lectures on Tung's Acupuncture: Therapeutic System

1. POINTS STUDY:
This book provides the location, application, and mechanisms of Master Tung’s points. It is a revsion of the book Tung’s Acupuncture, published in 2005; its content is deeper, richer, and more practical.

The book covers point locations, needling techniques, and treatments in detail, as well as comprehensive theoretical principles of Master Tung’s acupuncture. For each point, there is a diagram illustrating the point’s anatomical location. This is believed to be the most practical book currently available on this system. It will help the reader to learn Master Tung’s points with ease and apply the principles in practice.

2. THERAPEUTIC SYSTEM:
The book focuses on the therapeutic system of Tung's Acupuncture.
Disorders covered in this book include therapeutic point selections and the analysis of reasoning and theoretical principles.

The point selections are described according to the 14 meridians and explained in accordance with classical acupuncture and Master Young's personal clinical experience. Master Young also compares the therapeutic effect between the applications of the 14-meridians and Tung's acupuncture.

All subjects are covered in depth and are clinically practical in scope. Thus it is not only a book on Tung's therapeutic system, but also a practical book on therapeutics in the 14 meridians, allowing readers to choose either the 14 meridians or Tung's acupuncture or a combination of both to treat clinical disease presentations.

Important theoretical principles such as Zang Fu Bei Tung (The extraordinary connections of the zangfu), Ti Ying Zhen Fa (Application of Holographic Acupuncture Technique for Different Parts of the Body), Taiji Holography and Correspondence, and the Method of Selecting Five Shu Points of the Same Five-Element Category have their own chapters to elaborate their theoretical principles and applications in details.

Those chapters help the readers comprehend the advanced theories of Tung's extraordinary points so as to successfully incorporate Tung's acupuncture into their clinical practice.
